All I Want for Christmas is a New Luxury Car (with a huge bow!)
During this time of year we’ve all seen those commercials where the husband guides his wife out to the driveway while covering her eyes. He removes his hands, and behold…. to her delight she sees her brand new luxury car, topped with a huge red bow! They hug each other and life is perfect….. at least until the first payment is due. After watching this, my first thought is always “Who are these people?” This is followed by “do such huge bows really exist?”

So do people really buy each other Mercedes’ and Lexus’ for Christmas? The answer is yes. And not just the rich and famous like Curren$y who bought his Mom the Mercedes SUV that’s seen in the photo. I had the privilege to speak with the management at Fletcher Jones Motorcars (FJ) in Newport Beach, CA. They are the largest MB dealership in the U.S. December is in fact their highest sales month; last December 886 new cars were sold. Holiday gifts represent about 10% of December sales. What about those mega bows? FJ does in fact provide them, and in case you were wondering, yes they are free.
The aforementioned sales figures for FJ are in line with all car sales in the U.S., in which December is also the top month. One in ten vehicles purchased annually roll out of dealerships in the final month. Why is December so popular? It’s simple- automakers need to clear out inventory for the new models, and they are determined to hit annual sales targets. Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is a new sports car. This gray Corvette will do just fine. And yes, I’d love a bow on top- but make mine white!
